September 29, 1947 was a milestone event in the development of Latin jazz. On that day, a young Cuban conga virtuoso and composer Chano Pozo joined Dizzy Gillespie’s band onstage at Carnegie Hall in the first attempt to fuse elements of jazz and Cuban music at a serious artistic level. The marriage of syncopated Cuban rhythms with the be-bop melodic virtuosity was to be a happy one.
While Pozo was tragically to die young in the following year, his rhythmic innovations and influence on Latin jazz lives on to this day.

El 29 de de septiembre de, 1947 fue un hito en el desarrollo del jazz latino. Ese día, un joven virtuoso conga y compositor cubano Chano Pozo, se unió a la banda de Dizzy Gillespie en el escenario del Carnegie Hall,  en el primer intento de fusionar elementos de jazz y música cubana en un nivel artístico serio. El matrimonio de los ritmos cubanos sincopados con el virtuosismo melódico Be-Bop iba a ser feliz.

Mientras Pozo fue trágicamente a morir joven y en el año siguiente, sus innovaciones rítmicas e influencia en el jazz latino vive en el día de hoy.
